My name’s Martin and I’ve been playing the guitar for more than forty years.

When I was a teenager I bought a very cheap guitar, and a friend of mine taught me three chords, A major, D major and E major. From there, I bought a basic chord book and learned some more. Then I bought a Bob Dylan song book – well, this was the nineteen sixties – and, having added G to my repertoire, I managed to play Blowing in the Wind. I learned to play more chords, more songs, and I was on my way.
Time went by, and I started to go to the London folk clubs which took floor singers. I met some other guitarists and formed a trio. We called ourselves Tamarisk, and we did folk covers and some songs of our own. We toured the clubs and the wine bars playing our guitars and singing for our bar tab. While we didn’t get ourselves a name, we had enormous fun and I developed my skills.
After a few years, I obtained my first teaching job, which was two evening classes for beginners and intermediates. Since then I’ve done many things but now I’ve come back to what I really enjoy.
Teaching the guitar.
